Yahoo TV San Antonio Zoo Reopens After Heavy Floods Swamp City
The San Antonio Zoo reopened on Wednesday, September 4, after heavy rainfall brought flooding to south-central Texas on Tuesday.
Footage captured by the San Antonio Zoo shows staff members clearing debris and water around the zoo on Tuesday. A few birds can be seeing standing in the floodwater. The zoo said that the flooding affected office spaces, a training room, gift shops, the hippo-viewing area, restrooms, and pathways throughout the zoo.
“While we were closed for the day, our dedicated and passionate team spent the day taking care of the animals and working to protect the zoo from flood damage,” said Tim Morrow, president and CEO of San Antonio Zoo.
A severe storm brought up to 3 inches of rain to San Antonio between September 2 and 4, the National Weather Service said, leading to traffic delays and road closures in the area.
Morrow said that the zoo closure led to the loss of much-needed revenue. The zoo encouraged supporters to contribute to their annual fund or purchase membership or a ticket to the institution, as it depends “100 percent on visitation and donations to operate and care for the animals.” Credit: San Antonio Zoo via Storyful
