Djokovic celebrates with Serbian basketball team

STORY: Fans had gathered outside Belgrade City Hall to welcome home the national basketball team after they placed second at the Basketball World Cup, losing to Germany in Manila, Philippines on Sunday (September 10).

But instead of giving just the basketball squad a hero’s welcome home, the crowd also got to welcome Djokovic back to Serbian soil just two days after his historic win in New York which equaled Margaret Court's record haul of 24 major singles titles.

With their silver medals hanging from their necks, the basketball players cheered on Djokovic as he lifted the U.S. Open Championship trophy high into the air as the flag-waving crowd erupted in cheers while the tennis ace fought back tears.
