Albanian villagers and environmentalists are campaigning to protect it

against a plan to build more than 30 hydropower plants here

"We've been campaigning to protect the Vjosa River for more than six years. Until now, we've achieved a lot and we've won a few small battles. However, the battle continues."

"This land has fed many generations. For years and centuries, our ancestors lived on this land and we will not give it up even if force will be used against us."
