Iron ore train derailed in the Mojave Desert

STORY: The southbound Union Pacific train had two locomotives and 55 rail cars loaded with iron ore. Aerials of the crash site show mangled tracks and severely damaged ore cars piled on top of each other.

The derailment occurred roughly 160 miles northeast of Los Angeles, near Kelso Depot, a historic railroad site in the Mojave National Preserve around 8:30 am Monday said San Bernardino fire authorities.

No crew members were injured.

The cause of the derailment is being investigated.
