Migrant workers leave cities on trucks in locked down India

The administration of northern Ghaziabad district arranged the transportation as labourers, left with no choice, started undertaking long journeys across the country to their homes on foot, late night on Friday (March 27).

Thousands of poor migrants, who are struggling to survive in the absence of their jobs due to the countrywide lockdown announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, say they are left with no means to survive and they chose to head back home than beg and starve in Delhi.

They were seen pushing their way in to already overcrowded buses and even atop trucks and buses, hoping for a chance to head home.
