STORY: Four-time surfing world champion Carissa Moore said "postponing the Olympic Games until 2021 is the best decision for everyone, everyone's health is the top concern", as the world reels from the coronavirus crisis.

Speaking from her home in Hawaii on Wednesday (March 25), the day after the announcement to postpone the Olympics was made, the American added that she was lucky enough still to be able to train in the ocean and was "looking forward to doing my best in 2021" when the Games are expected to take place.

The 27-year-old American clinched her fourth world title in 2019 before announcing that she was going to take a year off from the ASP World Tour, apart from taking part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where surfing was going to make its debut.

She did modify her original plan by intending to compete in an ASP event in New Zealand earlier this month, but that event was cancelled because of the coronavirus threat.
