The award is given annually to an active player over the age of 28 after an online vote by fans. It can only be won once by a player. Ronaldo's greatest rival Lionel Messi has yet to win the award.

The Portugal and Juventus forward has four Champions League victories and four Club World Cups during his time at Manchester United and Real Madrid. The five-time Ballon D'or winner also has seven domestic league titles while also winning the European Championships and Nations League tournaments with national side Portugal.

Created in 2003, the award was first awarded to Roberto Baggio. The award then went to Pavel Nedved, Andriy Shevchenko, Ronaldo, Alessandro Del Piero and Roberto Carlos.

In the past five years, the award has gone to Samuel Eto'o, Gianluigi Buffon, Iker Casillas, Edinson Cavani and Luka Modric.

Juventus president Andrea Agnelli also won the Golden Foot Prestige Award, becoming the first club president to do so.

Agnelli has seen Juventus dominate the domestic soccer scene in Italy under his control during the past decade.
