STORY: A rescue worker secured the man to a cable before the pair were hoisted back up to the helicopter.

It was not immediately clear how the man came to be in the water. The man was taken to USC Medical Center to be treated for hypothermia.

The river has been inundated with rain as the West Coast is getting pounded by an usually wet season following two decades of drought.
