Candies containing a “potentially lethal” dose of methamphetamine were urgently recalled by an Auckland food charity on Tuesday, August 13, after they were donated by an unknown member of the public for distribution.

New Zealand Police issued pictures of the candies in question, Rinda brand pineapple lollies, saying they had been distributed from Auckland City Mission in recent weeks.

“We found out today that a number of Rinda Pineapple Flavour lollies containing a potentially lethal dose of methamphetamine were donated by an unknown member of the public to the Mission for distribution,” Auckland City Mission wrote on Facebook.

The mission said they were donated in a sealed retail-sized package and urged any recipients not to eat them.

The NZ Drug Foundation said that the dose found in the candies could cause symptoms including seizures, delirium, and loss of consciousness
