King Charles greets crowds at Buckingham Palace

STORY: Charles and his wife Camilla, Queen Consort, stepped out of the royal car to huge cheers from a crowd gathered outside the palace.

The king shook hands with dozens of well-wishers and look at floral tributes to his mother for at least ten minutes. Several members of the public sang "God save the King" and one said "Love you Charles!"

King Charles's mother, Queen Elizabeth, was the only monarch most Britons ever knew.

The death of the queen, Britain's longest-reigning monarch and a towering presence on the world stage for 70 years, has drawn condolences from around the world.
