The 299-square-mile Caldor Fire burned in California’s Tahoe National Forest on August 30 as the blaze advanced into the Tahoe Basin.

The Caldor Fire grew to 191,607 acres with 16 percent containment by Tuesday, official reports said. Since August 14, the wildfire has destroyed over 700 structures.

The spread of the wildfire prompted California Gov Gavin Newsom to declare a state of emergency for Alpine, Amador, and Placer counties. The Caldor Fire has forced the evacuation of thousands of residents, including significant portions of South Lake Tahoe.
