STORY: A Japanese sushi chain is using AI

to crack down on unhygienic pranks

A camera, previously installed to count

trays, has been upgraded with an AI function

“With the newly-introduced AI system, the camera can detect the act of a tray being put back onto the conveyor belt and send an alert to our headquarters. Our staff there will call the restaurant after getting the alert and then confirm what exactly happened, as well as remove the tray immediately."

Kura announced the move after a video

at one of their restaurants went viral online
