Friends, family and former players bid farewell to iconic Australian cricketer Shane Warne in Melbourne, Victoria, at a state memorial on the evening of March 30.
Brian Lara, former West Indies cricket captain, told crowds that during a test match in Sydney his “entire team was in a panic” because during a previous match Warne “picked up seven wickets for 52… he announced himself to world cricket there and then”.
The crowd erupted into applause as Warne’s children helped unveil the renaming of the Melbourne Cricket Ground’s Great Southern Stand to ‘Shane Warne Stand’.
