Crowds of demonstrators congregated around the Jakarta headquarters of Bawaslu, Indonesia’s general election supervisory board, on Tuesday, May 21, after news of incumbent President Joko Widodo’s victory was announced.

Minor clashes were reported as police dispersed the estimated 2,000 demonstrators, which included groups supporting opposition candidate Prabowo Subianto as well as rival protesters calling for unity, The Straits Times and CNN Indonesia reported.

Prabowo Subianto, known commonly as Prabowo, publicly rejected Joko Widodo’s victory with 55.5 percent of the vote over his 44.5 percent, citing voter fraud – a narrative that Indonesia’s election supervisory board rejected, according to Detik News and The Jakarta Post.
