The Ocean Explorer, the cruise ship that ran aground in a fjord in Greenland earlier this week, was freed on Thursday, September 14, Denmark’s Joint Arctic Command said.

On Wednesday, a first attempt to dislodge the ship was unsuccessful, the command said.

The Ocean Explorer had sustained no damage to the hull and no one on board had been injured, SunStone Ships, the vessel’s owner, said.

Some passengers had tested positive for COVID-19 while the ship was marooned, the Sydney Morning Herald reported on Wednesday. The ship was carrying some 200 passengers, mostly Australians, and the cruise was scheduled to run from September 1 to September 22, the Herald said.

The ship first ran aground on Monday, SunStone Ships said.
