Hundreds of golden retrievers gathered for the second annual Golden Strong event on Sunday, April 14, a day ahead of the Boston Marathon, in honor of Spencer and Penny, dogs known for supporting runners, after their deaths from cancer last year.

According to the organizers, MA Golden Meetups, roughly 600 people and 350 golden retrievers attended the event at Boston Common. The gathering raised money for Morris Animal Foundation’s research on hemangiosarcoma “with hope that someday the golden breed will no longer be plagued by cancer like it is today,” they said.
