A newborn bottlenose dolphin was seen swimming with its pod off the coast of St Petersburg, Florida, earlier this month.

Footage by Michael McCarthy, who runs a local boat and kayak business called See Through Canoe, shows the baby dolphin dipping in and out of the waves.

“I saw this pod of dolphins while kayaking and noticed that one of them was very young, probably less than a day old,” McCarthy told Storyful.

“I knew it was a newborn because it was very dark, and still had its fetal fold lines (the white vertical lines on its body), and its fins were still very floppy,” he said. “I was really surprised and privileged to see it take what was probably its very first jump.” Credit: See Through Canoe via Storyful
