The Royal Canadian Air Force packed supplies into helicopters on a private helicopter facility in Abbotsford over the weekend.

The region was among those badly-hit by the floods.

The helicopters will take the supplies to nearby indigenous communities affected by the widespread flooding and landslides after a rainstorm lashed B.C.'s south coast.

Canada's westernmost province declared a state of emergency after a phenomenon known as an "atmospheric river" brought a month's worth of rain in two days.

The rainfall washed out roads and railways, cutting off Vancouver and the lower mainland region from the rest of the country, and blocking access to some towns entirely.

About 14,000 people remained under evacuation orders in several communities in the Pacific province, as of Saturday evening.
