A city-wide evacuation order was issued for Merritt on Monday, November 15, as flooding and mudslides impacted southern British Columbia.

Officials said access to Merritt was prohibited from 4 pm on Monday. Floodwaters inundated two bridges across the Coldwater River and prevented access to the third, they said.

City officials deemed local water to be undrinkable, even if boiled, and warned residents to stop non-essential water use.
