They both escaped a Nazi labor camp nearly 80 years ago

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR, FRANK SHATZ, SAYING: "A great, great pleasure that somebody is still alive that went through the same thing what I did and we survived and we can now serve as the last generation who can say we experienced it. We know what the Holocaust was and after us, it will be books and films and museums but nobody can say I was there."

At 96, Shatz is an author who writes a column for the Virginia Gazette

Berci, 101, is a pioneering surgeon who still reports to work

(SOUNDBITE) (English) HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR, DR. GEORGE BERCI, SAYING: "We are very fortunate that we remember these historical sites, these historical events and we can draw some conclusion and we can draw attention to the present people who are around us, what's happened and what should we do that this should never, ever occur again."

The number of Nazi Holocaust survivors is difficult to estimate

The U.S. Registry of Holocaust Survivors lists 195,000 survivors and relatives
