Argentine prison named World Heritage site

STORY: This former detention and torture center in Argentina

has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site

It was used during Argentina's last

military dictatorship from 1976-1983

ARGENTINA’S PRESIDENT, ALBERTO FERNANDEZ:

"In this year, as we celebrate forty years of democracy, I cannot tell you how reassured I am now that the Naval Mechanics School (ESMA) has been declared a UNESCO-declared site of memory no one in Argentina can deny, forget the horror that took place there."

ESMA was once the largest detention

center in Argentina during the regime

which left nearly 30,000 people missing,

according to estimates by human rights organizations
