Baby giraffe’s first moments delight at Chile zoo

STORY: According to keepers, the proud mum gave birth to a calf on June 19. It came in at 218 lbs and 6'49 feet tall.

The calf is now able to confidently stride on all fours.

According to the Natural Resources Defence Council (NRDC), giraffes are under threat. The NRDC reports there are only 68,000 giraffes left in the wild largely due to habitat loss.

When fully grown, the new calf could reach up to 16'4 ft in height and weigh as much as 4,400 lbs.
