A home-security camera captured a black bear wandering through a property close to Woodstock and Saugerties in New York’s Ulster County shortly before dawn broke on Friday morning, August 19.

The video from Jeff and Mel Limonlowther, who live in the small community of Centerville on NYS Route 212, shows a bear walking past their garage door, around a vehicle in their driveway, and out toward the road.

It was the first bear sighting for the Limonlowthers, who moved to the Catskill Mountains from New York City in 2019.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation estimates that between 6,000 and 8,000 bears live in “areas open to hunting” in the state, and that at least 30 percent of them live in the Catskills. Credit: Jeff and Mel Limonlowther via Storyful
