At least 25 people were killed in severe flooding in Ecuador’s capital Quito on January 31, local authorities confirmed.

City officials said on February 2 a further 53 people were injured and six people still missing.

Quito’s mayor Santiago Guarderas said aid was being distributed to affected families.

“We are grateful for the solidarity of neighbors, public institutions and private companies,” Guarderas wrote on Twitter.
