The Santa Maria Fire Department released a video on Thursday, September 17, showing firefighters felling a burning tree during their battle against the El Dorado Fire in the San Bernardino National Forest.

“These trees, known as snags, can fall across containment lines or even worse fall on firefighters working in the area,” said the department in a post to Facebook.

The El Dorado Fire, which started on September 5 with a firework from a gender reveal party in Yucaipa, was 66 percent contained by September 17, and had burned over 19,000 acres. Authorities said 1,351 personnel were assigned to fight the fire. Credit: Santa Maria Fire Department via Storyful
