Police stormed the campus of Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the early morning of November 18 after an overnight standoff with protesters holed up in the building.

Several hundred demonstrators held out in the campus despite being told to leave on Sunday, according to reports.

Police fired tear gas and water cannons in an attempt to disrupt protesters, who have occupied the facility for days.

In this video, a large fire can be seen burning on a pedestrian bridge connected to university buildings as the sun begins to rise.

The South China Morning Post reported that the normally serene neighbourhood around the Polytechnic University campus had been turned into a “war zone.”
