Tomita finished third in the women's snowboarding halfpipe at the Beijing Winter Olympics on Thursday (February 10) with Chloe Kim of the United States winning the gold medal and Queralt Castellet of Spain taking silver.

"I have always wanted to be somebody that the younger generation could admire. So I'd be really happy if I achieved that," Tomita, 22, told the news conference.

She also said she hoped her medal would result in making people more interested in her sport in Japan.

Tomita made her Olympic debut at the Pyeongchang 2018 Games where she finished eighth in the halfpipe.
