Thousands of Queenslanders were left without power on Monday, March 1, as a tropical low brought powerful winds to Cairns in the state’s far north.

Ergon Energy reported around 40,000 customers had lost power due to the stormy conditions. Thousands of homes were still without power on the morning of March 2, according to local media.

Darryn Browne, who provided this video, told Storyful that the power outage “just came from nowhere and took everybody by surprise.”
