This Italian glacier is wrapped in sheets

to prevent it from melting

Location: Presena Glacier

It is covered with over 24 acres

of white geotextile fabric

used to reflect sunlight

during the summer months

and reduce the temperature

of the permanent ice

The massive cover will be removed

at the start of the skiing season

when the temperature drops

This procedure has been carried out

every year since 2008

to combat the effects of global warming
