Lebanese museum returns ancient artifacts to Syria

Five ancient treasures are being returned to Syria

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) GENERAL DIRECTOR OF SYRIA’S DIRECTORATE-GENERAL OF ANTIQUITIES AND MUSEUMS, MOHAMED NAZIR AWAD, SAYING: “This is a ceremony to hand over five Roman artifacts from Tadmor from the Lebanese Nabu Museum, a private museum, to the Arab Republic of Syria, to the Syrian National Museum.”

The Roman artifacts date back to the second and third centuries AD

and come from the ancient city of Palmyra

a site recently damaged during Syria’s decade-long conflict

They have been on display in Lebanon since 2018
