Indonesia’s Mount Sinabung sent a plume of ash over 11,000 feet above sea level on March 2, Magma Indonesia, the country’s volcanic monitoring agency said.

This footage, filmed approximately five miles southeast of the volcano, shows ash rising into the sky. In a notice for aviation, the agency warned that the ash cloud was “around 11072 FT (3460 M) above sea level.”

Local residents were “advised to wear masks when leaving the house to reduce the health effects of volcanic ash.”

Indonesian media reported locals and tourists had been told not to enter the area around the volcano. Credit: PGA Sinabung via Storyful
