STORY: This sheet of music written by Mozart is going up for auction

as part of Christie’s ‘Valuable Books and Manuscripts’ sale in London

(Mark Wiltshire, Christie's specialist in the books and manuscripts department)

‘’The price estimate for the Mozart manuscript is 80,000 to 120,000 pounds and there’s always great excitement when anything like this from Mozart comes up. // What we see here with this Mozart autograph manuscript is very much the living hand of Mozart that was at one point warm and capable but now we tend to sort of see Mozart as this sort of abstract figure. This presents him as the genius that he was.”

This military letter penned by Henry VIII to his lieutenant-general in 1513 is also on sale

“The estimate for this letter is 25,000 to 35,000 pounds. Whereas we do occasionally see Henry VIII letters coming up, what’s particularly rare about this one is that it’s a campaign letter. // it’s about his strategy, it’s about him as a sort of Machiavellian figure trying to work out exactly the best way of defeating his opposition.”
