Park Chan-wook back at Cannes with 'Decision to Leave'

STORY: The romantic thriller, which is screening in competition, is Park’s fourth film at Cannes, with 2004's "Old Boy" winning the festival’s Grand Prix and "Thirst" tying for the Jury Prize in 2009.

Park walked the red carpet with his lead actors Park Hae-il and Tang Wei.

In the film Park Hae-il plays police detective Hae-joon, who is investigating the death of an avid climber after he fell from a mountain peak. Meeting the man’s wife, a mysterious woman of Chinese origin, Hae-joon becomes suspicious when she shows no signs of shock over her loss and starts observing her. Over the course of his investigation, the two start developing feelings for one another.

“Decision to Leave” is on of 21 films vying for the festival’s top honour, the Palme d’Or.

The Cannes Film Festival is this year celebrating its 75th anniversary and concludes with the awards ceremony on Saturday (May 28).
