President Biden Awards Medals of Honor to Soldiers Who Fought in Afghanistan and Iraq

President Joe Biden awarded the Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award for valor, to three soldiers who fought in Afghanistan and Iraq during a ceremony at the White House on Thursday, December 16.

Footage from the White House shows the president delivering remarks and bestowing the medals to the Army service members and their families.

Sgt First Class Alwyn C Cashe received the medal posthumously for his service as a Platoon Sergeant with Company A, 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3d Brigade, 3d Infantry Division in Salah Ad Din Province, Iraq, on 17 October 2005, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, the White House said in a press release.

Sgt First Class Christopher A Celiz was awarded the medal posthumously for serving as the leader of a special operations unit comprised of partnered forces and members of the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, on July 12, 2018, in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel in Afghanistan.

Master Sgt Earl D Plumlee received the honor for his service as a Weapons Sergeant, C Company, 4th Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan on August 28th, 2013. Credit: The White House via Storyful
