Prototype rocket ruptures during SpaceX pressure test

Video obtained by Reuters showed chunks of the prototype falling after the rocket ruptured in the company's facility in Boca Chica.

The prototype - dubbed the Mk1 - was unveiled in September this year when SpaceX CEO Elon Musk outlined a speedy development timeline for the Starship program, which was meant to bring humanity to the moon and Mars.

In a tweet, Musk said that the company would no longer fly the Mk1 prototype and will instead move on to a newer iteration. "This had some value as a manufacturing pathfinder, but flight design is quite different," Musk said in the tweet.
