Former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters doubled down on his decision to wear a Nazi-style outfit during a concert in Berlin last month as he performed at London’s O2 Arena on June 7, despite calls for the show to be canceled.

According to Bild, police in Berlin were investigating Waters “on suspicion of incitement to hatred” after he donned a black trench coat with a red armband on stage.

In a screened statement before his London show began, he said criticisms were “bad faith attacks” and an attempt to “smear and silence” him.

“The depiction of an unhinged fascist demagogue has been a feature of my shows since Pink Floyd’s The Wall in 1980,” the statement said.

“Attempts to portray those elements as something else are disingenuous and politically motivated,” he said. The statement continued: “My parents fought the Nazis in World War II, with my father paying the ultimate price.”

Video from June 6 showed he wore the controversial outfit for his first night of two shows in London.

According to the Evening Standard, three London rabbis called for his shows not to go ahead, and Mayor Sadiq Khan met with O2 Arena officials to express concern.
