U.S. President Donald Trump on Sunday Tweeted that Adam Schiff - the Democratic lawmaker leading the impeachment case against him - has quote "not paid the price yet."

Trump's tweet reads quote: "Shifty Adam Schiff is a corrupt politician, and probably a very sick man. He has not paid the price, yet, for what he has done to our Country!"

Schiff told NBC's Meet the Press he thought the president's tweet was "intended to be" a threat.

Trump's statement follows days of arguments by Democrats in Trump's Senate impeachment trial… on charges he abused the power of his office by pressuring Ukraine to investigate a political rival, and then tried to obstruct an investigation by Congress.

The Tweet also comes a day after Trump's lawyers began their defense… arguing Democrats' efforts to remove the president from office would set a "very, very dangerous" precedent in an election year.
