STORY: The Period Products (Free Provision) Scotland Bill was unanimously backed by the Scottish Parliament in November 2020 but came into force on Monday (August 15).

Scotland's minister for housing social justice, Shona Robison, told the BBC the scheme would make a significant difference during the cost of living crisis.

The bill was first proposed by opposition Labour Party lawmaker Monica Lennon, who has been campaigning for the new law since 2016.
