Perez was named chairman of the project when it was announced on Sunday (April 18), but by Wednesday it was left in tatters as nine of the 12 founding clubs reportedly withdrew their support for the breakaway.

The Real Madrid president also said the current Champions League is an "obsolete" format that "does not generate revenue" and needs to be substantially overhauled to reach a younger audience.
