Train Carrying Hazardous Materials Derails in North Minnesota

A train carrying hazardous materials derailed in north Minnesota on Wednesday, May 31, with officials saying the adjacent highway would likely remain closed for two or three days.

Video by Chris Orwig shows the Canadian Pacific train with multiple cars and tankers derailed alongside Highway 59 between Lancaster and Lake Bronson. The train was headed to Canada.

The local fire department said there was no sign of any leaks.

Minnesota Gov Tim Waltz tweeted that no injuries were reported and that the site was contained, with Kittson County emergency manager Scot Olson saying that precautionary measures were being taken. Credit: Chris Orwig via Storyful
