Wuhan protesters tear down lockdown barriers

STORY: Footage from Wuhan showed dozens of uniformed police locking arms to form a line whilst facing off against protesters who were chanting and singing the Chinese national anthem.

Protesters in major cities including Shanghai and Beijing turned up in large numbers, while students gathered on campuses across China.

The backlash against COVID restrictions is a setback for China's efforts to eradicate the virus, which is infecting record numbers of people and raising concern about the economic toll of lockdowns on the world's second-largest economy.
