STORY: This New York artist creates miniature dioramas of Brooklyn

Aaron Winston Kinard has turned his home

into a mini-museum of his works

Artist, Aaron Winston Kinard: “And if we walk over this yellow building right here I'm quite fond of, because it reminds me it, is an actual building that I've moved in in Brooklyn with my partner, and this was the first place that we lived. And if you look in the back top fourth floor, that is our apartment right there

He spends days creating each diorama

using various techniques and materials

including 3D printing and airbrushing

Themes include urban streetscapes, poverty, homelessness and racial inequality

Artist, Aaron Winston Kinard: "When I looked at many miniatures or videos on this, you see guys making railroad trains and train stations, small towns, and it's always rural and it always reflects White America, for the most part. And although it looks beautiful and they have talent, it wasn't anything that I was relating to. And when I tried to scan the Internet, there were very few Black artists doing this type of work also, and I wanted to represent. So when you look at most of my models, it's of an urban scene.”
