1. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) REAL MADRID COACH, ZINEDINE ZIDANE, ON DIEGO MARADONA, SAYING:

"It is sad news. Not only for the soccer world, but for the entire world, I think. I remember Maradona mostly from '86. I was 14. So, like you (reporter) say, I think he was a one-of-a-kind player. My idol was Enzo Francescoli, but I think he (Maradona) was a player who everyone wanted to imitate, Maradona. It's true that it's tough on a day like today which has been spectacular. But at the end of the day, I was lucky enough to tell him that '86 - because all kids have something to say - and I had the opportunity to tell him he was an incredible player and I remember that. And that's that. Like I said, it is sad news and we send our condolences to his family. And well, may he rest in peace. Which is the most important thing."

2. (SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) ATLETICO MADRID CAPTAIN, KOKE, SAYING:

"It is a sad day for all of us who love soccer. I wasn't lucky enough to have met him and I've only seen him play on tape, but it was a spectacle. And everyone who tells me about him says how marvellous he was. It is a huge loss for the soccer world. I send my condolences to his family and all of Diego's fans, who I think is everyone who loves this sport. And wherever he may be, that he rest in peace and he's surely going to keep watching and enjoying soccer."

STORY: Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said the death of Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona on Wednesday (November 25) was a sad day "not only for the soccer world, but for the entire world."

Zidane's sentiments were echoed by cross-town rival Atletico Madrid captain Koke who said it was "a sad day for all who love soccer."

Both sent their condolences to Maradona's family and wished he rest in peace with Koke adding, "wherever he may be… he's surely going to keep watching and enjoying soccer".

Maradona, widely regarded as one of the greatest soccer players of all time before drug and alcohol addiction marred his career, died on Wednesday at his home in Argentina after suffering a heart attack, his lawyer said. He was 60.
