There are 'no winners' in a government shutdown, former senator explains

U.S. lawmakers have just days to agree on and pass a new federal spending bill in order to avert a government shutdown by October 1. Former Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) sits down with Yahoo Finance Live to gauge the inevitability of a government shutdown and how Congress needs to overcome divisive "tribal politics" and work toward a solution.

"The Speaker [Kevin McCarthy (R-Ca.)] does not control the House of Representatives any longer," Dorgan says. " And the Senate, it looks like it has done something that if they send it to the House and the House would pass, it would give us another four or five weeks. But, then we would be right back into it again."
