Fires and damaged buildings could be seen in the video published by Russian media outlet 'Izvestia,' following the assault on the morning of Wednesday (August 7).

In one of the biggest Ukrainian attacks on Russia of the two-year war, around 1,000 Ukrainian troops poured into Russia's Kursk region in the early hours of Aug. 6 with tanks and armoured vehicles, covered in the air by swarms of drones and pounding artillery, according to Russian officials.

Heavy fighting was reported near Sudzha, where Russian natural gas flows into Ukraine, raising concerns over a potential stop to transit flows to Europe. Ukrainian officials said the gas transit route was still functioning.

A drone photograph released on Thursday (August 7) and satellite imagery from Thursday (August 1) and Tuesday (August 6) captured by 2024 Planet Inc. showed damage to Sudzha border crossing between Ukraine and Russia.

Reuters was able to verify the location as the Sudzha border crossing in Kursk region, Russia by the buildings and road layout seen in the drone photograph, which matched file and satellite imagery of the area. The date when the drone photograph was taken could not be independently verified, however satellite imagery from August 6 shows damage to the border crossing buildings, while earlier satellite imagery dated August 1 shows no damage.
