A large depression opened up in a flood-hit neighborhood in southeast Ocala, Florida, on Wednesday, June 21, as heavy downpours that began on Tuesday continued to swamp parts of the region, officials said.

Footage from Ocala Fire Rescue (OFR) shows the sinkhole in a yard, with floodwater pouring into it, near the corner of Southeast 28th Place and Southeast Fifth Terrace.

The depression was about 30 feet in diameter and was located less than five feet from the residence, OFR said. Due to the proximity, the occupants were alerted and safely evacuated from the building, they said.

Storms and flash flooding returned on Wednesday and were expected to continue through Friday. Marion County authorities were offering sandbags to residents to help protect their properties from floodwaters. Credit: Ocala Fire Rescue via Storyful
