A rare Mediterranean cyclone battered Kefalonia, Greece, eroding Jerusalem Beach on September 18, according to reports.

Kristina Kopfer recorded this footage of the beach washing away amid torrential rain and posted it on Instagram.

Kopfer told Storyful the footage was taken outside of Odysseas Taverna, a restaurant owned by a close friend.

“His house and his restaurant were in the path of this freak flood during medicane Ianos. Both have been totally destroyed,” she said.

The footage shows water rushing over the beach and pushing a black car into muddy floodwater. In the video, Kristina Kopfer’s sister Tayo can be heard asking where the people are, and if they’re okay.

The sisters watch for a few more seconds as the water continues to rage before Tayo says, “Come on, let’s go, let’s go. It’s getting worse.”

The Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) issued a weather warning for Friday, reporting “heavy rains and storms, which will be accompanied by very stormy winds.”

The HNMS reported, “the very intense weather phenomena will show a slight
weakening toward the evening.”

According to local reports, many were left without power, and villages have been turned into lakes and rivers. Credit: Kristina Kopfer via Storyful
