Earlier in October, opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya called for an October 26 nationwide strike if Lukashenko had not resigned by October 25.

Demonstrations erupted across the region in opposition to President Alexander Lukashenko after he claimed a landslide victory and announced his sixth election win on August 9. The win has been widely viewed as rigged. Credit: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty via Storyful
