At least six people were killed after a 6.8-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Turkey on January 24, Turkish media reported.

The earthquake occurred near the border between Turkey’s Malatya and Elazig provinces, affecting the city of Elazig and many small towns nearby, reports said. Soon after the initial quake, the province was shaken further by a series of aftershocks reportedly ranging from magnitude 5.4 to 3.3.

Local media said several buildings were “demolished” in Elazig’s city center.
