Don’t forget to call your grandmother. Holly Tighe, from Ireland’s County Tipperary, certainly has no excuse, considering her granny has racked up a whopping €2,162.16 worth of cell phone credit.

The Snapchat video shows Tighe’s grandmother playfully sharing the overly large credit balance her Nokia phone account had.

The automated voice from the phone starts, “your balance is two-thousand, one-hundred sixty-two euros.” Tighe’s grandmother then points to the phone in anticipation as it says “and 16 cents.” The pair burst into laughter at the comically large balance.

The video was posted to the Joe.ie Facebook page June 15, 2019.

According to commenters on the Joe.ie Facebook thread, it is common practice in Ireland for cell phone users to receive an automatic text from their carrier telling them to “top up” their account balance, whether or not it is low, leading to such swollen balances. Credit: Holly Tighe via Storyful
